The world according to Gabers

Comment of the week from our favorite 5 year old....
"I know what Pope John Paul II's last name is.  It's The Second."
Totally makes sense to me!

Our own Pooh Bear

From the lines of our favorite old Winnie the Pooh movie....

A wedged bear

in a tight place.

In a word

irremovable!

(Poor guy needed a little help to escape that lamp.)

A day in the life...

of our goofy family.

Marianna wanted a picture with Francis, since they are both wearing stripes.
Wow!  He's 8months old tomorrow!

And she discovered a great way to keep her bangs out of her eyes.
We'll call it  the glasses/headband look.

Then Francis had a run-in with a purple marker (washable, thank you).
Yummy!

Then we managed a little tea party to finish off our crazy afternoon.
Therese is always begging to use the good china, so just for fun,
we splurged.
(No broken cups this round.)

Since last night's post was about the new rabbits, thought I'd better get a few pics. of the kitties on the blog, as well.
Dan was out starting the boiler the other night and heard these little guys making quite a ruckus from inside the woodpile.

Quite a surprise, since we don't even own a cat!  Now we have three kittens to care for.

But, alas, there is plenty of kitten-love happening here!

Their names are Tiger, Stripe and Smoke (for now, could change by tomorrow, names are fleeting around here, you know).

Even Clare got in on the action. (She looks pretty good at two weeks post-wisdom tooth removal!)

Pepper and I can't remember...

Yep!  It's terrible but I can't remember what the other bunny is called.

We inherited these bunnies from a family friend and they are HUGE!
 Therese named her bunny, Pepper.

Andrew insisted the other one should be called, Rabies.  Pretty sure that didn't last, though.

Here's hoping Dan gets busy this weekend revamping our woodshed.
Fall is chugging along and the chickens and their new friends
need a home for the winter.

To the newest teen in the house...

Matthew awoke to a room full of younger siblings singing Happy Birthday.

Got this video of Marianna doing her part, as well.

His response was, "If you sing Happy Birthday one more time, I'm going to give you all wedgies."

Yep, definitely a teenage response.

Here's some pics. from the rest of his day...

Keeping our girl busy!

Marianna's Pumpkins

(They're actually puffball mushrooms but she calls them pumpkins.)

Apple-Picking Time!

This year was an excellent year for our apple trees and we have been thoroughly enjoying the Honeycrisps.  Next week we are supposed to have a hard frost and then the "no name"(this tree was here before we were, so we're not sure what variety it is) apples will be ready.  Here's some of the apple fun that was to be had in the past few weeks.

The homegrown apple-picking crew

Hmm, what is this thing?

Maybe it'll taste good.

Marianna's lovin' on her apple.

It's pie making time.

Therese is always game for helping in the kitchen.

Therese's creation included everyone's initials and leftover dough balls.

Looks like someone took a little nibble out of
one of my picture perfect apples!

What a fly sees...

or the world as seen through this little gizmo.

The consensus is that a fly's eyes are pretty cool.

In other insect-related news,
Matthew and Andrew worked on a Can Trap experiment.

They put  a little food in two cans and placed them in the ground.

Covered each can with a piece of wood and waited a day
to see what insects would be found in each trap.

Matthew's pineapple successfully caught a few insects.
Andrew's ground beef was hijacked by some forest critter.
All the food was gone!
